Myre Mixes Modern and Vintage Vibes
By Alyssa Davis
With most cutting edge fashion designers erupting from the depths of New York and Los Angeles, it’s refreshing to hear about new talent within Boston borderlines. Jess Meyer, a New England native raised in Northern California, redefines flair w ith her Spring/Summer 2008 Collection. Meyer uses her bicoastal background and architectural experience to create a fresh look that is exceptionally flattering to the female form.
Unlike her past collections, Meyer’s upcoming spring and summer designs are driven by print as opposed to solid color. There is a wide range of colors between earthy tones, hot pinks, crisp whites, and even a splash of cobalt blue. Boring is not a possibility when you feast your eyes on these articles of clothing with a retro vibe, letting your mind drift into a sea of bold circles or dainty floral patterns.
However, the diverse graphic prints are just the half of it. The success of Meyer's newly created brand, Myre, relies not only on the invigorating patterns of the garments but also on the contour of the design itself. This season’s collection is filled with a variety of tailored silhouettes allowing the fitted garments to look unique yet still attractive. Meyer states confidently, “My client is always elegant but edgy.”
Another perk of this inimitable line is that Myre's pieces are all limited edition, meaning that once the season is over, it’s almost nearly impossible to find a Myre original. “Of course”, Meyer confesses, “the collection was inspired by vintage fabric” not to mention that all cuts and stitches are made in Myre’s South Boston studio in the first Gold Rated LEE D-Certified green building in the Boston area, proving these limited edition pieces to be truly one of a kind. While the company produces only a few pieces per style and season, the clothes can be preordered online, expecting delivery during late January to late March.
Alternatively, Meyer stayed true to her roots by also selling her clothing at various boutiques within Boston, Massachusetts. So if custom ordering apparel isn’t exactly your style, be sure to hit up at least one of the chic stores that feature Myre located throughout the Boston area.
One of the most popular boutiques include Turtle, located in Boston’s South end, which is devoted to selling both apparel and accessories by emerging fashion designers and artists. Not to mention The Velvet Fly, which happens to be located in the North End and features an eclectic mix of modern and vintage items along with Myre’s select items. Other shops that sell Myre include the Crush Boutique, Hazel and Grace, and recently, Stil at The Natick Collection.
