Get Rich!
By Kristine Barry
Cover girl Kristyn Rich is anything but your average Boston girl. From her powerhouse vocals to her sexy girly clothing she just screams edge and enthusiasm. Her fabulous single “Don’t Make it Tonight” has been a favorite on the Boston club scene. This wildly fun girl is not afraid to be center of attention in mini dresses, animal prints, and sky scraper heels (which she manages to wear while performing). If that is not amazing in itself this girl has some serious talent that leaves audiences begging for more.
So Kristyn what are you wearing today?
My fav. backless shirt! The shirt just screams because from the front it goes to the neck and totally says "I’m a good girl" but then I turn around it its like "Damnn!" It shocks people to take a double look which is perfect for me because I love the attention!
How would you describe your style?
A complete mix of classic and wild... if that makes any sense. I’m almost ALWAYS in black with a little touch of color here and there. Very posh and sleek combined with wild accessories like leopard shoes and pastel handbags.
What is your favorite outfit in your closet?
My little black skin tight mini dress. It can be worn in EVERY SINGLE way imaginable... and no matter how I feel about my body on any given day it makes me look amazing and sexy.
Do you think your clothes reflect you and your taste?
Of course! My personality is slick, fast paced, sophisticated, and most of all... wildly fun! I wear a lot of black, not because I am a dark person, but because you can work off of black with any accessory you want! Throw a zebra print with it if you feel wild and crazy. Wear a pair of red stilettos if you feel sexy and seductive. You could even throw a bit of pastel pink with black to pull more of an innocent "girls night out" attitude!
What do you typically wear on a date?
I would definitely wear a dress because 98% of the time I am in a dress or mini skirt! What kind of dress? I guess it depends on where the extremely lucky man was taking me!
Are there any lucky men you are dating right now?
Not at this very moment. I just got out of kind of a rough relationship and I need to devote 120% of my attention to my music right now.
That is completely understandable, so what do you wear when you are performing?
I am one of those lucky chicks that can put on a 4½ inch heal and still dance like crazy! I wear a heel 24/7 so of course on stage you won’t find me without them. Other than that... I wear either mini shorts jeans, or leggings. I ALWAYS have a belt on to avoid giving the audience a peek at my bum! When you are dancing, it’s hard to keep jeans from slipping below your waist-line! Also, I dress to draw attention so eye catching colors, shimmer corsets and wild make-up are always good choices.
I know you have performed at a few clubs in the Boston area, do you have any memorable performances or moments that stick out?
I've done a few amazing shows. I think one of my favorites though was at a bar called McFadden's because I use to work there before my music career began to really ride! I loved seeing old co-workers and friends. Also, l did the show with a few other artists from my studio that I have known from the very beginning. It was fun to witness how far we have all come since we started our careers. These artists have been my competition, but also my support system and truly my family.
How would you describe your music?
My music is a genre in its own. It is a mix of punk-electro, dance, and pop. I don't look at myself as a pop star though because the songs I write don’t have that classic pop R&B vibe. My music takes more of a twisted turn towards the international route. My whole personality shines through in my lyrics and melody. It is wild, crazy, fast paced, and sometimes moody. Put that with a beat that knocks your socks off. Indescribable!
Who do you sound like as an artist?
Hmmm... Good question! I guess it depends on what I am singing! I do a lot of upbeat tempos, which I guess gives me more of a Gwen Stefani vibe. If you slow me down however, which is very rare hehe, my voice becomes more soulful like En Vogue or Debra Cox.
In your music who/ what has influenced you and your sound?
My producer Ric Poulin has developed me as an artist from the get go. He has pushed me to become what others didn’t believe I could be. He allowed me to decide who I was as an artist; they helped me to achieve everything it took to get there. He has been there by my side as I have tackled walls whether they existed in my personal life, or in my career. He is my mentor and I honestly would not be where I am today without him.
Who do you look up to as an artist?
I look up to any artist who truly makes music his/her career, someone who is still in the game after several albums and has kept themselves sane and driven. Someone who doesn’t get wrapped up in finances to the point where they forget why they ever became an artist. Someone who keeps reinventing and bettering themselves. Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani to mention a few.
I love your song, “Don't Make it Tonight”, did you write it? It sounds like so much fun, my friends and I love to get ready to it before going out, where do you typically go with friends?
I am so thrilled you got to hear it! The lyrics and melody were both self written but the production of the song was done by Ric Poulin. The song was written with the intentions of becoming a pre-club listener! hehehe! The beat just really pumps you up for a wild night and the lyrics give you a confidence boost for whatever the night may bring!
Where do I go with friends??? Anywhere where the music is so loud that you can't talk... so instead you dance! My friends and I make a joke that the louder the music, the less you have to listen to some boy spitting you pathetic lines in your ear. Plus, I need to feel the music through my veins. Its like a release. My friends and I dance till we can’t physically move our legs anymore!
